Classic Sunday Spaghetti with Homemade Marinara

Ingredients:
For the Sauce:
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt & pepper to taste
- ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
For the Pasta:
- 12 oz spaghetti
- Water for boiling
- 1 tsp salt
For Serving:
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil leaves
Instructions:

Make the Sauce:
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until soft.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Pour in crushed and diced tomatoes.
- Add tomato paste, Italian seasoning, sugar, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
- Simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in fresh basil and remove from heat.

Cook the Pasta:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Cook spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
- Drain and toss with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.

Assemble & Serve:
- Toss spaghetti with the marinara sauce or serve with sauce on top.
- Garnish with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
